A half cleared cross fell to midfielder Sevilla after nine minutes at the Villamarin, and his first time shot was too powerful for visiting keeper Diego Alves which resulted in 1 – 0 victory for Betis.
Valencia, still seeking their first away win this season, improved in the second half when striker Roberto Soldado, who scored a hat trick against BATE Borisov in the Champions League during the week, twice went close but was unsuccessful.
Betis keeper Adrian blocked another Soldado effort with his legs in the closing minutes to leave Valencia ninth in the table with 11 points and 29 games to go.

Welsh star Gareth Bale returned to haunt his former employers as Tottenham held on for a 2-1 victory at Southampton on sunday night.
Bale gave the north Londoners the lead 15 minutes into the match, heading home on his return to action following the birth of his first child last week.
Spurs deservedly doubled their advantage as half time approached through Clint Dempsey, who directed home into an empty net after Jose Fonte’s clearance off the line fell straight into his path.
A vastly-improved Saints side re-emerged for the second period and they reduced the deficit in the 66th minute when Jay Rodriguez lashed home his first Premier League goal of the season as well.

Newcastle 2 – 1 Wesh Brom Albion

Sammy Ameobi Newcastle United

Papiss Cisse deflected home a fortunate injury time winner for Newcastle as Alan Pardew’s men recovered from Romelu Lukaku’s equaliser for West Brom Albion to claim a 2-1 win at St James’ Park on Sunday eve.
Substitute Sammy Ameobi struck a left foot shot from the edge of the box which took a heavy deflection off the back of Cisse and was cruelly diverted past Baggies keeper Ben Foster to seal the home side’s win taking them to 10th position in the Premier League table.
